Where Has The Village Gone?

Oh, Satabhaya!

An entire village has been wiped out, not by any Tsunami or any single disaster or occurrence. Gradual sea ingress and coastal erosion have gulped the village.

Pentha and the bulging sea

These two satellite images of Pentha village compare the status of November 2009 (top) with March 2019 (bottom). This is the beach where the government has tried using modern geo tubes to stem sea erosion. Yet,...!

Two things are to be observed here. While the sea is continuously gulping land, people continue to cut trees and build pucca houses.

Can't blame the sea for everything, can we?

Marauding Sea and Vanishing 'Satabhaya'

This village is (rather, was) part of Odisha's great #Tapoi, his seven brothers and #Satabhaya folklore. Sea has already most and about the gulp the remaining of the seven villages.
